Workshops & Events:

As part of the RACER Project’s community outreach, the New Mexico Community Foundation (NMCF) holds free Community Workshops and trainings to all interested participants on a monthly basis. To date, more than 100 people from groups including local pueblos, students, and citizen watchdog organizations have participated. The purpose and goal of the RACER Community Workshop is to heighten public awareness about conditions in the environment in and around LANL and to foster a better understanding of the significance and technical aspects of the RACER Project.  During the workshop, participants receive hands-on training with a knowledgeable instructor so they feel confident using RACER at home or in the workplace.

Currently, community workshops are often held in Santa Fe; however, the NMCF is committed to bringing RACER to all communities and community members and we encourage interested participants to please contact us with suggestions/requests for future workshops at racer@nmcf.org or 505-699-2493.  The NMCF also offers all participants compensation for both mileage and time to ensure that every person interested in RACER has the means to get involved.  We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming workshop!

The New Mexico Community Foundation is actively requesting and compiling public input for recommended interface changes to the RACER Data Analysis Tool (DAT) during two public input meetings to be held in Santa Fe and Espanola in July.

The meetings will include an overview of the objectives and significance of the RACER Project, as well as a demonstration of how community members can use the Data Analysis Tool to find sources of environmental contamination from in and around Los Alamos National Laboratory.  Following the demonstration will be an open discussion in which all community members are invited to attend and offer their input on improvements.

Input gathered during these meetings will be used to design mockups for a more user-friendly RACER interface.  Input from community members will then be sought to evaluate and chose the best mockup as the new interface for RACER.

Community members that aren’t able to attend either public input meetings are encouraged to participate by sending all input to racer@nmcf.org.  Additionally, all community members interested in participating in a public meeting to evaluate mockups of new RACER interfaces, please send an email to racer@nmcf.org.

*Spaces are limited and must be reserved. Please reserve your space at racer@nmcf.org or (505) 820-6860. Stipends are available to compensate community members for their time and mileage to participate in these meetings.*
