Prepared for Winter Climbing
If you like hiking, but always hesitate to get off track in winter, don’t hesitate anymore! Winter climbing can be an amazing experience if you take the right precautions beforehand. You might even find that you enjoy hiking in winter more than the summer months because it is less hot. Whatever type of hiking you like, there is no reason to stay at the door once the temperature drops.
Staying Cool and Dry
There are some things to keep in mind when you are planning a winter hiking trip. The most important thing and this might sound a bit strange considering the weather, is you have to stay cool and dry. This might not make sense to you, but for anyone who sweats during the winter and then has to stand around in cold and damp clothing, you will understand how important this is. To stay comfortable and safe, you will need a few supplies. The first is Wick-Away clothing. Many different brands utilize these terms and it describes material designed to draw the moisture and perspiration away from your body. As it removes the dampness, you will be able to stay cool and comfortable. The items that you wear closest to your skin such as underwear and socks should be made of this material. You can then coat the wool clothes at the top to keep you warm. Several layers of lightweight clothing will be more comfortable than one or two layers of thick clothing.
